The context

The "Pequeño Valiente" Foundation, a non-profit in the Canary Islands, Spain, supports families impacted by childhood cancer through social aid and psychological support. They also raise awareness and funds for cancer research.

Their yearly "Gran Gala Pequeño Valiente" (Pequeño Valiente Grand Gala) is a charity event with artist performances and awards for contributors to childhood cancer advocacy. It is broadcasted on La 2, RTVE's (Spain's public broadcaster) second channel, only for the Canary Islands.

The challenge

The gala team got in touch, as they wanted to update last year's graphic package. They looked for a new and fresh brand, modern, while also making reference to the childlike and charitable nature of the gala. The team needed a graphic package that was able to be adapted to the TV broadcast, as well as the stage, posters, and more. The project had to be completed within only two weeks, adding an extra layer of intensity to the process.

The approach

Taking this brief into consideration, I decided to create a package that kept a somewhat reminiscence of a traditional and formal gala, but basing it more on the unique concept of it. A modern and fun graphic line that also makes reference to the childish side, while not making it too generic.


The "orb"

The main concept is based on an orb/circle made up of a variety of shapes, representing all the different kinds of people supporting the cause, as well as symbolizing the wide diversity of patients that the foundation helps. This orb is organic and imperfect, making it closer to everyone and making it more human. Its motion design and animation represent a heart beating, as well as the strength and bravery of both patients and families, as well as donors and supporters of the cause. This is portrayed as a motion equivalent of a war cry, portraying the power of the community and. This orb is made up of warm colors, both gold and magenta, which give it that more festive inviting feel, and setting it apart from the formality of more traditional events.

The brand

The full brand is made up of the orb, and the logotype itself. It's written with a modern and close typography, with creative and not so geometric strokes, connecting it with the children's world, without making it too obvious and tacky. The letters "Q" and "L" are joined, representing the collaboration of everyone around the same cause.

The graphic package

For the gala broadcast on live TV, a graphic package was needed. Following the brand aesthetic and the main concept of the orb, I created a handful of graphics and resources such as chyrons, inserts, transitions, etc.

The gala was broadcast on the 23th of November 2024 on La 2, and it's now available as a VOD on the video below or on RTVE Play.
